What is the importance of patience to a Christian?

African American woman studing and reading the Bible.

When you accept Jesus in your life, you become a good Christian and you shall see the father through him because he is the way, the truth and the life and nobody shall see his father except through him.

However, are you patient enough? There is a great need for any Christian to be patient over everything because if one is not patient in his heart, he gets tempted. This is because he becomes too greedy and evil spirit can easily over take such a person.

Why should you be patient as a good Christian?

In the book of 1st Samuel, it talks about the man who had two wives; Hannah and Peninah. The man was called Elkanah.

Peninah had children but Hannah had no children. It is believed that he (Elkanah) loved Hannah so much according to 1st Samuel 1:5.

God had shut up the womb of Hannah but she was holy and promising so she prayed to God and she promised him.

Scripture reference

1st Samuel 1:11

“ And she vowed a vow, and said, O lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affiction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give into thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the lord all the days of his life, and she shall no razor come upon his head”

When she prayed for a child, finally God blessed her with a child.

1st Samuel 1:20

“Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel; saying because I have asked him of the lord”-20

“For this child I prayed, and the lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him”-27

“Therefore also I have lent him to the lord; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the God, and she worshiped the lord there”-28

The Bible according to the story of Hannah, teaches us clearly that as Christians, we should be patient because if we are, God answers our prayers, our waiting and our requests.

The major importance of being patient as Christians are; save us from evils; when you are not patient, you may take what is not meant for you especially when we get much anxieties that leads to evil acts like witchcraft, robbery and stealing, corruption and so many evil acts. Patience also creates faith in your life. Faith is well defined in the book of Hebrews 11.

Whoever has patience in his life, have faith too and can’t be over taken by evils. Despite bad situations come in our lives and we lose hope, they are just temporary and God has a unique plan for everyone.

He has listened to your prayers and he shall lift you up.

Scripture reference

1st Samuel 2:8

“He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes; and to make them inherit the throne of glory; for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S and he has set the world upon them”.

Be patient to everything because God is going to lift you up, he is going to count you on and you shall be a prince/princess, you shall inherit the throne of Glory.

Every good Christian should have patience in his heart to remain faithful to the lord and to receive the spirit of God so to get out of the evils.

Let us pray together

Father in heaven, Today I want you to deliver me

Please save me from temptations and sufferings,

Save me from the evil spirit and make me kind by your grace

I pray to be patient so that I receive my blessings, my joy from you oh lord

Please guide me and strengthen me

In Jesus’ name

Amen
